A distinguished psychoanalyst lives on the same apartment floor as his ex-wife, with whom he is still in love. He is a highly disciplined analyst of people and their behaviors. In addition, he is self-serious, inwardly focused, and plainly disdainful of all activity and pursuits except for those of the mind. He has little patience for physical exertion of any kind, a splendid irony considering his patients include some of the greatest sportsmen in Italy. After a series of health problems, his physician puts him on a strict gym regimen which leads him to a personal trainer who is obsessed with the cult of the body, and represents to him his diametrical opposite in just about every way.
